Two ceramic mortar bowls, one olive green and one red, each sold with a wooden pestle. Use them for sesame, peppercorns, dried chili, or for working a dressing smooth before it goes on the table.

The bowls are Mino ware, thrown and glazed in Toki, Gifu prefecture. A mortar is a tool that gets used and washed constantly and then left out on the counter, which is a fair argument for owning one that looks like something. Two colors, and that is the whole collection.
