Love this matcha powder. Definitely buying again
This is a 30g tin of ceremonial grade matcha. The powder is a bright vivid green, finely ground with no grittiness. It whisks up smooth with no clumping if you sieve it first. The colour alone tells you it's a better grade. The taste is smooth and grassy with a natural sweetness, I have it whisked with hot water or in a latte with milk, both work well. A little goes a long way, half a teaspoon a cup, so the tin lasts despite being small. The tin seals to keep it fresh and out of the light. Good quality matcha and fair value for a ceremonial grade and it does give you an energy boost.
this 30g jar of green matcha tea is bright green, smooth looking and finely ground. It has a faint grassy smell and a light flavour. A teaspoon of this matcha powder is lovely mixed with greek yoghurt and honey.
What does 'ceremonial grade' matcha mean? Nothing. It's a marketing term used in the West to give consumers a reason to buy one matcha over another. Over time, it's become so ubiquitous that every matcha in the West is sold as 'ceremonial grade', but it's a meaningless term that is not used in China, Japan or Taiwan. However, this is a good matcha. It's not exceptional, but it is well milled and has a clean, fresh taste that is refreshing. Many people want to try matcha to give them a boost without caffeine. I certainly found this to be an energising drink. It has a nice colour and is easily whisked, making for a nice drink. Whilst I tend to take matcha on its own, my wife will combine it with different ingredients and she tells me that it blends well. This is quite pricey matcha and I'm not sure I'll buy it again at this point.
This matcha has been used both traditionally whisked with hot water and added to lattes, and it performs well in both cases with a smooth texture and vibrant green colour. The flavour is grassy and fresh without the bitterness you often get from lower quality powders, and it froths nicely when whisked properly. A small amount goes a long way, making the 30g tin last longer than expected with daily use. It provides a gentle energy boost without the jittery feeling associated with coffee. The powder stays fresh when sealed properly and does not clump, which suggests good processing and storage quality. This is a solid choice for anyone wanting to enjoy matcha on a regular basis rather than only as an occasional treat.
